After 15 years of live classes in Southern Oregon and 4 years of Zoom classes, we have shifted our SAT/ACT Prep program to individual tutoring only.
SAT/ACT Current Landscape
The SAT and ACT have both gone through, and continue to go through massive changes, including shifting towards digital testing, decreasing the duration of the tests, and changing some of the subject areas to optional. Meanwhile, college policies about requiring the tests keep shifting. Some require them, others are test optional, while some schools will not consider them at all. For this reason, every student’s situation with testing is unique depending on their test taking skills, the rest of their academic record, and the colleges they are applying to.
Tutoring Structure/Strategy
Individual prep starts with a one-hour Zoom session to get a sense of the student and his/her strengths and weaknesses. We go over the student’s academic record, the differences in the tests, any prior results (PSAT etc.), and general approaches to both the SAT and ACT. Based on the discussion, homework is assigned to start the learning process and assess the student's current baseline abilities. And then we create a calendar to optimize the improvement process. Most students require 6-8 (one hour) total sessions, but some require fewer or more.
Individual Tutoring Rate: $125/hour session
Testimonial: Eric Danson worked with me to study for the ACT from July to September 2019. He was recommended to me by a friend who also really improved from his work. I had gotten a 25 without studying at all. As a college student I thought I should be able to pass the test at a higher score. So I started working with Eric. He was immediately welcoming and I felt comfortable learning with him. We worked over video chat and it went really well. His methods were short and simple but very effective. After a few weeks I had gotten the basics down and he switched to make me focus on the smaller problems. He always showed confidence in my work and even when I doubted I would get the score I needed he said I could. I went into the test thinking of everything Eric said and couldn’t have been happier with the results. I got a 32 which is a 7 point increase which seems pretty big. I would recommend everyone to Eric because he is smart without being degrading to others and he is kind but still firm enough to make you want to make him proud.
